Dates of conference: 20 May 2009

Name of conference: IEEE/SADFE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers/Systematic Approaches to Digital Forensic Engineering) 2010 Fifth International IEEE Workshop on Systematic Approaches to Digital Forensic Engineering in conjunction with the IEEE Security and Privacy Symposium

Venue: Oakland, CA, USA

Purpose: Most previous SADFE papers have emphasized cyber crime investigations and digital forensics tools. While these are still key topics of the meeting, we also welcome digital forensics papers that do not necessarily involve either crime or digital forensics tools. General attack analysis, the insider threat, insurance and compliance investigations, similar forms of retrospective analysis, and digital discovery are all viable topics. Digital forensic engineering is the application of scientific principles to the collection and analysis of digital artifacts, either for use within the legal system or to aid in understanding past events with the goal of improving computer system security.

Dates of conference: 19-21 May 2010

Name of conference: 2010 ADFSL (Association of Digital Forensics Security and Law) Conference on Digital Forensics, Security and Law

Venue: St Paul, Minnesota, USA

Purpose: Digital forensics plays a more prominent role in law enforcement, network security, and information assurance. The field of study encompasses not just digital evidence, but also the areas of cyber law, sociology, and security to name a few. Its increasing importance is reflected in its growing role within crime investigations, civil cases and homeland security.

While some topics or courses will be needed in a variety of majors such as criminal justice and computer science, an enhanced level of study should be provided for those wishing to have a more solid foundation in digital forensics, security and law. By providing a conference addressing research and curriculum in the related disciplines of digital forensics, information assurance and law, we hope to provide an avenue which will provide for a more comprehensive and richer learning environment.
